Seasonal care

Small checks.
A clearer picture.

Use the change of season to record the condition of your home and decide what needs attention.

A seasonal record can help you notice a change before it becomes part of a larger renovation. Keep a short list of observations, photographs and follow-up questions.

Watch where water goes.

From a safe location at ground level, look for blocked drainage, staining and downspouts that discharge near the building. Health Canada recommends keeping eavestroughs clear and directing water away from the home. Arrange suitable help for work that requires ladders or access to a roof.

Note indoor moisture.

Record new condensation, leaks or a musty smell. Health Canada’s guidance explains common moisture sources and when to seek qualified assessment. Address a recurring problem before hiding it with new finishes.

Keep a useful record.

  • What changed, and when did you first notice it?
  • Does it happen after rain, during cold weather or during a household activity?
  • What previous work or maintenance is documented?
  • Who should assess the issue, and what questions will you ask?
